Our inspection of the dust collection system at a mining industry client uncovered a number of key findings impacting performance.

• Hopper Access Doors: Several lacked proper gasketing or were missing flange bolts. This allowed ambient air and moisture to enter the system, weakening collection draft effectiveness.
• Clean Air Access Lids: Lids were missing gaskets, and latches weren’t secured. Under suction, dust collectors pulled in outside air instead of through the filter bags, adding moisture to the housing and robbing airflow needed for effective dust capture.

Dust Discharge Problems: Rotary Airlock Leakage

The rotary airlock’s bearing packing gland needed service. Leakage here not only caused visible housekeeping issues but also introduced moisture into the airlock. The result: dust agglomeration, material build-up, and ineffective hopper discharge.

Pulse Cleaning System Issues: A Hidden Driver of High Differential Pressure

• Blowpipe Wear: Decades-old blowpipes showed malformation of the discharge orifices. Out-of-round openings distorted the cleaning air pattern, reducing cleaning effectiveness and leading to accelerated filter bag wear.
• Neglected Tubing: Crimped or missing tubing between solenoids and diaphragm valves restricted proper air delivery. Without effective pulsing, filter bags weren’t being cleaned efficiently, causing unnecessary increases in DP.

From Inspection to Training and Action

Alongside the inspection, Cleanova Micronics delivered an On-Site Baghouse Training Seminar for the plant’s maintenance, operations, and engineering teams. The seminar integrated real findings with dust collection theory and best practices. Importantly, corrective work orders were issued on the spot to ensure that actionable improvements were made.
